Suspected undercover ISI agent Javed, alias Salim Mooziwala, who was arrested in Mazagaon on Thursday, was in possession of detailed information of Mumbai’s vital installations, according to investigations. Data found in his possession reveals that he is well versed with routes and details of the country’s premier nuclear Institute BARC, the refineries, and government offices including Vidhan Bhavan and Mantralaya. The Crime Intelligence Unit of the Crime Branch is interrogating Javed and looking for his associates. According to police officers, the accused ISI agent is a member of a sleeper cell that has been dormant for years. He came under the surveillance of the Intelligence Bureau when he reactivated his ISI links recently.
Police found in his possession soft copies of data related to vital city installations. His pen drives and hard disk of his personal computers have been sent to the forensic laboratory to retrieve data. The call records of his 15-odd SIM cards are also being scanned, as well as the numbers found in his phonebook. According to a Crime Branch official, they have recorded several local as well as international conversations he made before he was picked up. The audio recordings and transcriptions have been submitted to Central agencies and the Home Ministry, who are conducting parallel investigations. The Crime Branch had picked up Javed from his Mazagaon residence where he was staying with his family at Infinity Tower, which housed people of all communities. A man in 40s, Javed maintained an extremely low profile and did not raise any suspicions. Not even his family members had an inkling of his activities. When contacted, his brother Asif said, “We don’t know anything about Javed’s alleged anti-national activities.” |
