The photographs just landed in my mailbox and I am sharing them with you. It reminds me of Akshay Kumar's now infamous visit to R K Laxman. Ostensibly, Akshay Kumar wanted to visit the iconic creator of the Common Man, which influenced the screen adaptation of his character in Khatta Meetha.
The actor has been roundly criticised for his photo ops with Mr Laxman. This report in The Times of India is a reminder of Mr Laxman's heartrending condition and, simply put, the insensitive timing of the visit.
R K Laxman is deprived of speech and movement. He didn't recognise Akshay Kumar. His wife says Laxman has never been much of a Bollywood man and was always selective about the cinema he patronised.
What lengths would actors go to promote films? Meeting paraplegic kids, more photo ops and the chance to show a humane face – is that all that matters?
Have ARB and Hrithik met paraplegics, war widows or victims of terror? I don't think so. Then why now?
We can guess the answer to that one.
