Jaydev Unadkat

Profile

Jaydev Unadkat is a tall left-handed medium pacer who has been endorsed as one for the future by none other than the legendary Wasim Akram.

Barely 19, young Unadkat was included midway for India's home series against Australia in 2010 for the injured Ishant Sharma. The Saurashtra lad who was first spotted by coach Ram Odedra at the Duleep Sinh School of Cricket in Porbandar, spearheaded India's bowling attack in the 2010 Under-19 WC before being usurped by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2010 IPL. It was followed by a dream first class debut against West India A where he accounted for more than half of the West Indies wickets and with figures of 4-41 in the first innings in an Irani Trophy game against Mumbai put himself firmly in contention for an inclusion in the Indian Test dressing room.

With an enviable height of 6'3", he can land the ball on seam and swings with variety as well. His ability as an aggressive fielder is an added asset. One would argue that he has been thrown at the deep end very early in his career but it will be exciting to see if he is up to the challenge.

Fast Facts

  • He was drafted into the Test side after playing only four first class games and before he had played a single Ranji game.
  • He had a sensational first class debut starring in a winning cause for India A with his figures of 13-103 against West Indies A.
  • He won the 'Man of the Match' award for his figures of 3-26 against Rajasthan Royals in a 2010 IPL game.
