The Pride of BJP

It was only five days ago that the JMM has voted against the cut motion in the parliament. Reacting aggressively to this, BJP, an ally of JMM in Jharkhand, decided to withdraw support to Shibu Soren’s government. Today, BJP has put its decision of withdrawing their support on hold after Shibu Soren offered to resign as chief minister and offered BJP to pick the new chief minister. The only condition being that the chief minister should be a tribal leader.

Shibu Soren, fondly called as Guruji, seems to have check mated himself. BJP, on the other hand, is keen on gaining the maximum political mileage out of this situation. If BJP withdraws support, it would lead to the fall of Shibu Soren’s government in Jharkhand. This would mean president’s rule or if the numbers are in favor of Congress, then a Congress government. Clearly, both the results are in favor of Congress. To nobody’s surprise, Soren’s offer appealed better to BJP than the fall of JMM government. Of course, not everybody from JMM might approve for a chief minister from BJP. Few might need someconvincing from the BJP. Eventually, it would all come down to numbers.

BJP is now willing to work again with Shibu Soren who has only days ago voted against them. Would Shibu Soren be loyal from now on? Is this the perfect Rajneeti by BJP? Or has BJP’s pride taken a back seat when compared to its desire for power and limiting congress in Jharkhand?
