Home Remedies for Hair

Hair problems are common among the men and women. Premature graying, dullness, braking of hairs, loosing hair, brittle hair and dandruff are some of the general problems of hair that people complain. Most of these problems are natural part of aging or some may cause due to the pollution, tension, illness etc. Here are some simple home remedies that will help to get rid of hair complaints.

1. Premature Graying:

  • 1/2 cup of dry coconut pieces.
  • 1/2 cup of fresh coconut pieces.
  • 1 cup of fresh curry leaves.
  • 1/4 cup water in which Amla (Indian Gooseberry) pieces were soaked.

Mix all and grind into mixture and then extract the juice. Massage this on to scalp. Wash hair with herbal shampoo. Do this twice a week for best results. Prepare this mixture fresh every week. This pack normally suits for both dry and oily skin conditions.

2. Dandruff:

  • Apply margosa leaf past or curry leaves in the scalp for 15 minutes before the head bath.
  • Apply warm lemon juice over the scalp mixed with almond/ olive/ coconut/ mustard oil over head and massage properly. Keep for 1/2 hour and wash it off.
  • Apply Aloe Vera juice with some turmeric and Basil juice for 15 to 20 minutes before head bath.

3. Hair Loss or Breakage:

  • 2 teaspoon coconut milk.
  • 2 teaspoon coconut oil.
  • 2 teaspoon margosa leaf past.
  • 2 teaspoon papaya past.

Apply this mixture at least once a week and watch your hair turn healthy.

Tips for healthy hair:

  • Take 2-3 glass of milk/day.
  • Include green leafy vegetables in your meal.
  • Eat colorful fruits.
  • Avoid more spicy foods.
  • Wash hair 2-3 times in a week.
  • Wash hair with shampoo and apply conditioner always.
  • Take proper sleep of 6 to 8 hours/day.
  • Avoid stress.

Get Rid of Gray Hair

When the roots of your hair stop producing melanin, your hair loses color and turns grey or white. Since hair consists of dead cells, once grey or white hair is formed it cannot be changed. The age at which a person’s hair becomes white depends on hereditary factors, diet, lifestyle and stress can also cause premature graying. Here are some remedies for preventing formation of white hair:

  • Prepare black tea in half a cup of water (without milk and sugar) allows to cool and massage it on the roots of your hair. Leave it on the hair for an hour and then wash it away. This will coat the hair black and hide the grey color.
  • Take sufficient amount of yoghurt daily and one tablespoon of yeast before meals. Both are helpful in prevention and treatment of gray hair.
  • Take nutritious diets like iron, copper, vitamin B, folic acid and iodine you can ensure hair follicle health. Increase intake of vitamin B12 foods such as cow’s milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, fish, meat, beef etc. to decrease hair pigment loss that leads to white hair.
  • Mix benniseed (sesame) oil or olive oil in juice of bottle-gourd and apply to hair. This makes the hair long, black, thick and shiny. It also helps to prevent gray hair and protects hair fall.
  • Drinking Carrot juice everyday helps to keep hair black and overcome the grey hair problem.
  • Eat Fenugreek sprouts regularly and apply Fenugreek paste on the scalp an hour before taking bath once in a week helps to overcome gray hair problem.
  • Iron & Iodine should be taken in form of sea food to delay the process of graying hair. Fish is the main source of iodine, the requirement of iron can be met by adequate intake of carrots, bananas and other similar vegetables & fruits.
  • The butter made from cow’s milk has the property of preventing graying of hair. A small roll may be taken internally and a little quantity may be massaged into the hair roots twice a week.
  • Use coconut oil with lemon or almond oil to massage the scalp. Vegetable and essential oil also contain nutrients for slowing the graying of hair.

  • Drink two glasses of milk per day.
  • Do not use dyes. Instead of coloring agent use henna (mehandi).

  • Dry brittle Nails should be first soaked in a solution of warm water, lime juice and olive oil. Soak it for around ten minutes. Simultaneously massage and clean your nails and gently push back the cuticles with your fingers.
  • To harden soft nails, soak them in warm olive oil for about 20 minutes, on alternate days. The best time to file your nails is when you are already wearing a polish. This will prevent splitting or breaking of nails.
  • To remove stains from your nails, mix one tablespoon of lemon juice in a cup of water and soak your nails in this liquid for a few minutes. Then, wash off with warm water and apply a hand moisturizer.
  • Mix baking soda in water to make the paste and apply it to nails at least for ten minutes, then wash with fresh water. This mixture will prevent nails from getting yellow.
  • You can scrub your nails with toothpaste this will help remove stains and shines them up.
  • To keep your hand nails smooth, apply olive oil on your fingers and dip them it warm water for 10-15 minutes to give your nails a glossy sheen.
